9 de Septiembre (Flamingo Road!)

Today, we went to church in a MOVIE THEATER! Yes, that’s right, the Cineplex! It is a satellite church of Flamingo Roach Church in Cooper City, Florida. Each Sunday, the congregation meets for a time of live worship though music in English. Following that time, the sermon is broadcast in from Florida and shown on the theater screen! How cool is that?! Currently the church only has an English service, but starting in a few weeks, there will also be a Spanish service. Too bad the Spanish one starts at 9:00 . . . :) Maybe we’ll make it to that one sometime while we’re here, too.

After church, we ventured over to Chili’s to eat lunch! I totally ordered nachos and sweet tea. Yum. Tasted like home. :) Then, Junior was kind enough to be our resident tour guide! He took us first over to Kennedy Park where we were able to view rows and rows of beautiful artwork! There just seem to be so many talented artists here in Lima, and it’s amazing to have the opportunity to take some of it back home! Loves it. :) Parque del Amor was our next stop! Apparently people flood this park on Valentine’s day and sometimes even after they get married. It was a beautiful park that overlooks the Pacific Ocean. The parks here in Lima are truly beautiful and very well-kept.

*we live at "the lighthouse"*

Larcomar is right down the street from there, and so we decided to check that out as well! Larcomar is a big mall that also overlooks the ocean. It was definitely a spot for tourists, but we enjoyed shopping in shops that were familiar to us. When we left there, we found a cute little shop on the street that had some really funny shirts that all mocked the Peruvian delicacy of cuy or guinea pig. :) Liz said that she’s tried this tasty dish before, but I don’t know if I’m quite that adventurous. I mean, I may have jumped out of an airplane before, but guinea pig is a whole different story! Haha. Pictures of all of these things will follow, but I forgot my camera the other day and had to rely on Junior to take pictures for me!

Ahhh, it’s time for the serious note. :) So the pastor, Troy Grambling, was great; I was captivated by his message of being like the ant. Proverbs 6:6 says, “Go to the ant, oh sluggard; consider her ways and be wise.” Interesting to think about. Pastor Troy pointed out that the life expectancy of an ant is 45 to 60 days. So the ant’s job is to gather things to eat that won’t actually be ready until after that ant is dead! On the same note, the ant is eating things which he did not personally gather. Hmm. So our job then is to go out and plant the seed of salvation in the lives of others. Although we may not be around to harvest those believers, it is important that we do this now for the sake of the next generation! The other thing that the pastor pointed out was the word, “sluggard.” Everything we do should work towards the purpose of bringing people the good news of salvation in Jesus Christ. Keeping our bodies in shape, eating healthy, resting, etc. all relate to being able to spread the good news. Our bodies are not our own. They are on loan from God to use for His purpose, not ours; he expects a return for His investment in us. How are we going to us that which He has entrusted to us to produce His fruits?
