The past few days have been pretty good! We’ve been keeping up with our classes and even doing a bit of studying. :) And here I thought I had graduated from college. . . we never stop learning. :) We still have perfect attendance and haven’t been late to class yet! *Knock on wood* The elevator operator asked us if he could practice his English with us, too. Apparently he takes classes in the afternoons. How popular we are becoming for our native tongue! :)
I found out in class that I have a proyecto to do! I have to make a poster with pictures of my country and speak as though
We taught the conversation club again at ICPNA La Molina. It went well again, and we had a good turnout! Since our topic was holidays, we were able to get a bit of a crash course in Peruvian culture! Apparently February is “carnaval” season. This translates to Peruvians throwing water balloons at each other on the streets! How interesting and, to be honest, frightening! I’d have to walk around with a rain coat on. Other traditions include some very interesting things to do for New Year’s. If you want luck, you wear yellow underwear. Red underwear means you want to get married and green is for money! The students said that around that time of year, everyone sells yellow underwear! Maybe we’ll get to see some of that before we leave! Place your orders with me by e-mail only, por favor. :) Also, if you’re interested in traveling, you run around your house or the streets with a suitcase. And the final thing that I can remember for this celebration involves eating 12 uvas (grapes) at midnight. I think I might try out some of these this year. :)
After the conversation club we went over to Jockey Plaza to eat dinner using gift cards that we’d gotten from Flamingo Road Church for being first time visitors. The sandwiches at Pasquale Hmnos. were amazing!! (We figured out that “hmnos.” means “bros.” Hermanos. . . :)) I got the Pavo Pasuqale and Liz also got a Pavo sandwich. :) They even had a really extensive salsa bar that had about 10 different sauces! We didn’t exactly know what we were trying, but we each got three different sauces. They were pretty good!! Along with our sandwiches, we got fried yucca. I thought I was just eating yellow potatoes before Liz pointed out that they were yuccitas. Interesting. . .
“Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and everyone that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.” 1 John 4: 7&8
I love that version because it is straight from the song version I learned as a child in AWANA. How comforting to think of such a wonderful time of spiritual growth and encouragement in my life! What a wonderful thought, too, to know that God doesn’t just give us love, HE IS LOVE. Wow.
